Interns in Guatemala!!

Hi everyone! My name is Clare Gary and I am a part of the Guatemalan Interns Team! This week we have been at an orphanage in Zacapa, Guatemala. We are just getting to know the kids so well! We are all going to be so sad when we have to leave :( This boy named Miguel has been playing with me all this week! He is precious! He is 8 years old (I think) I'm not sure if he is telling the truth! haha. He is so precious!!! He loves to be picked up and hugged and loved on! He will never leave my side! The moment I got there, right as I walked in he was running towards me and jumped into my arms!!

He is so funny because if other kids come up to me and try to play with me and he will push them away. A few times he even hits boys. (The hitting part isn't funny, but the fact that he doesn't want to share me is) I took Miguel Angel aside and asked Berta to come translate for me. I took him and went to give him the shoes I bought him at the market. I bought him a pair of new tennis shoes, he had a pair of sperrys that were ripped all on the side, and he literally couldn’t keep them on. While I was putting them on Berta said his face lit up and he had a huge smile on his face! That makes me so excited!

It puts a whole new perspective on life for me. Most of us, I included, expect new shoes immediately when ours start to get work or a little dirty, but Miguel didn’t have an option of getting new shoes. He never complained once about his shoes that were falling off. We should learn from him and take Miguel’s attitude on life.

Miguel has a sister and another brother at the orphanage in Zacapa. I learned about their story today. Ana Maria is the sister’s name and she is 15 years old. Ana told me her family situation was not very good. The one time her mother has been there Ana told me she was scared for her life. I told Ana today that she was so brave for taking care of her brothers like that and to be proud of what she did. I also told her to be strong in the upcoming days as her court trial approaches.

This week God’s almighty power was shown. I saw how he was able to give us strength to keep us going even though we were all exhausted! I saw how he gave us rest when we needed it and were fully energized when we were with the kids! With a God that can do all that more, he is for sure Mighty to Save!
