Interns in Latvia

Ramie Stewart
Liepaja, Latvia

I don't even know where to begin! We've been here for 4 days and I have so much to share! We are working with a Day Care in the afternoons for families in the area. During this time the kids have song time, bible lesson, crafts, and a hot meal! It is definitely possible that it is the only hot meal some of these kids get! I watched most kids get 3-4 helpings of the delicious soup and hot tea. The kids just cling right on to you. Right from the moment we walked in, we were practically holding at least one of them at all times. We play outside games with them, and had a pretty intense game of basketball yesterday. (: The people speak mostly Russian in the area, not even Latvian (like most of the rest of the country), and some of the kids have been taught a little bit of English in school. For the most part however, they speak little to no English. You'd be surprised how well we can communicate with them though, just by holding and hugging, laughing and waving - Jesus' love is universal, and I see that now more than ever! The church we have kind of worked with welcomes us with open arms, we love them! We are within walking distance of the Baltic Sea, which is beautiful! -- Thanks so much for the support and prayer! We'll be updating these periodically.

Hello interns! I interned in Latvia last summer, so I'm excited to hear about what you guys are doing there this month! Sounds like you are off to a great start already working at the day center. The kids there are fantastic and so much fun! Enjoy your time in Latvia and give it all you've got! - Dala
