Interns in Romania

This is Chelsea Dillon and my team just finished a week in Tarnaveni. This past week we served at the Community Development Center (CDC) which works with children ages 3-7 in the morning and ages 8-14 in the afternoon. We were working alongside another American team mostly from Arizona and Illinois. It was wonderful getting to know them and work together as we helped these kids participate in the activities. We would do rotations everyday including Bible story, music, crafts, and games. I was in the craft room and it was wonderful to see the kids faces light up when they completed the craft. We did crafts such as making foam flip-flops, CD picture frames, paper plate clocks, collages, and making crosses.

The kids seemed to enjoy the crafts and couldn’t wait to take them home and show their families. The language barrier was a little difficult the first two days, but we are beginning to learn some Romanian phrases from our wonderful translators and we figured out other ways to communicate as well. One day, there was this cute little boy, and we ended up playing a game that he made up for a long time after we had finished our crafts. We even got to see a graduation ceremony for the kids who will be starting school in the fall. It was so precious and all the school and parents were there. It was amazing to see how proud the parents were.
We also got to visit some of the group homes that are in Tarnaveni. This was a great experience to see what the kids and families were like. We did crafts and played games with them also.

All in all, we had a fantastic week and we were all sad to see the week end. However, we get to back next week so are very excited!
