Allie here, or as the whole country of Peru calls me Gatito... apparently I look like a cat? I don't know... okay on to our week ...
This past week we were at Reina De La Paz a teenage mothers home. There were about 25 girls from the ages of 12-18. The pregnancy of all of these girls is a result of sexual abuse. This home is full of sadness and anger, and with 25 crying babies around it can be pretty overwhelming. It is one of those places that make you question everything about the way life happens, and why we got so lucky to be saved from these circumstances. On the other hand its hard to find God's purpose in all that has happened to these girls. It is something we will probably never fully understand. These beautiful children are just a constent reminder of a horrible thing and are sometimes treated as such. These moms who are just kids themselves cannot just go play they have to go tend to their child. There was one girl, Andrea (above) who is 16 who just had her baby a month ago. She is having a really hard time. She was very angry, hopeless, and alone. She wanted nothing to do with her baby and repeatedly asked for us to keep her. Towards the end of the week she was talking with some of our girls and said she wanted a new life and to let go of her anger. She decided to let Jesus handle all of that for her and gave her life to him. It was amazing to see how different she was after that. Not that it is not going to be hard, but not there is a place to turn to and somewhere to have hope in from such a dark place. At the end of the week three other girls made the same decision. God definitely goes before and after us in all situations and its way bigger than anything we see going on.
There was a crazy loud set of twins that I competely fell in love with, Miguel and Estaban. They did an super sweet dance for us in the 28 of July parade the home had. It is like Peru's fourth of July. Picture this: all the moms with strollers in tow, (don't forget the Peru flag on every stroller), Jamming to the Peruvian anthem in the background, as they march around the soccer field. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am sorry that you missed out, but heres a video to give you a little taste.
Another cool thing we got to do was paint some of the girls rooms. Someone had decided to paint them the color of despair so we decided to make a change to pink and purple walls. This week we are off to an orphange that has 700 kids... no that was not a typo, 700...so please keep us in your prayers. Lots of love from Me and my Peruvian pals Robyn, Emily, Meredith, Dawn, and Kelli
