Lima Peru With DBU

Hola, me llamo Emily y yo estoy en Lima Peru con Dallas Baptist Univerisdad!! Hello, my name is Emily and I am in Lima Peru with Dallas Baptist University. I am part of the DBU soccer team for our spring break mission trip! We have been blessed with the amazing opportunity to serve along side Buckner International in Lima Peru. The DBU Volleyball and Soccer teams headed to Lima Peru on Saturday March 7th excited to see the Lord work in huge ways. The Lord was gracious in allowing us to get all the way to Peru with all of our bags with no problem.

Both teams were totally blessed to have the opportunity to love on the people of Peru. We visited orphanages, community development programs, and transitional homes. It was amazing to see the impact Buckner is having on all of these lives!! It's also amazing to see how a mission trip that is for those in Peru totally impacts our lives as well. This was the first time for many of the girls from DBU to go on a mission trip, so it was so sweet to see their servant hearts awaken!

There were so many great memories, stories and powerful things the Lord did while in Peru, but it would turn into a novel :) Personally, I had two highlights from the trip that really touched my heart that I will share.
One of the days, we got to visit a transitional home for single moms. There were about 25 girls in this home ranging from ages 11-23 years old. We joined the girls in a little room where we sang worship songs, watched a few skits and I shared my testimony. It is amazing to see the Lord speak through you to touch the lives of others. Despite the situation these girls were in, they had so much love and hope in their eyes! The Lord was definitely present in this home! A group of our girls took on the moms in a soccer game while the rest of us went to the nursery to play with all the babies :) We had many opportunities to share the gospel and the love of Christ to these girls and seeds were planted!
The other part of the trip that really impacted me happened on the last day in Peru. A group of us met a team of younger girls from an orphanage earlier in the week when we were at the TV station being interviewed. We were excited to find out that we were going to get see these girls again at the orphanage later in the week. As we came into the orphanage, we were overwhelmed with hugs and kisses from all of the girls. We were all so excited to reunite again. We competed in a volleyball and soccer game against some of the girls while the rest of us loved on the others girls.

Before coming to Peru, there was a group of us who made 475 gospel beaded bracelets (black-sin, red-Jesus' blood, white-washing us white as snow and yellow- eternity in heaven) and we were able to give a bracelet to each of the girls in the orphanage. Before we tied the bracelet on their arm, we shared what each bead represented in Spanish, and then told them to share the story with their friends. It was really neat to see how receptive the kids were.

So, overall I was so blessed by this trip! The Lord was so good to provide the finances for us to get to Peru, the people that He put in our lives were absolutely amazing and the experiences that He allowed us to go through were unforgettable. I really hope that I will get another opportunity to go on another trip with Buckner because I was able to see first hand the impact that they make on the lives of orphans and at risk kids!
